TRUE WEST
by Sam Shepard
Directed by Morag Shepherd
This American classic explores alternatives that might spring from the demented terrain of the California landscape. Sons of a desert-dwelling alcoholic and a suburban wanderer clash over a film script. Austin, the achiever, is working on a script he has sold to producer Saul Kimmer when his brother Lee, a demented petty thief, drops in. He pitches his own idea for a movie to Kimmer, who then wants Austin to junk his bleak, modern love story and write Lee’s trashy Western tale. Their volatile relationships swirls while staying in their mother’s house in this drama by award-winning playwright Sam Shepard.

As a theatre critic and patron of the arts I am always looking for new and exciting productions I can experience. Such is the case with the latest from Immigrant’s Daughter and Lil Poppet Productions and their staging of the play Misery. It is unlike anything I have ever been a part of before, and definitely one of the theatrical highlights of 2024.

My Brother Was a Vampire
by Morag Shepherd
Directed by Stephanie Stroud
a horror comedy that follows a bizarre, broken, and blisteringly brazen journey in reverse. Siblings Skye and Callum love each other, hate each other, and need each other. Oh, and they can fly.
Callum: Tyler Fox
Skye: Ariana Farber
Produced by Immigrant’s Daughter and Lil Poppet Productions.
Shepherd’s My Brother Was A Vampire could not be more timely than in 2025. Today, with an abusive predator in the nation’s highest office, countless numbers of children of migrants and immigrant families have been separated from their parents and many do not know if they will be reunited with them. What will their trauma look like in their own experiences not only at the moment but after the fact in their adulthood? -Utah Review
